This pattern was created to honor and celebrate the respected art of Māori wood carving. Whakairo requires patience and diligence, and is a skill that many Māori continue to hone to both honour their heritage and carry the stories and lessons embedded in the carving forward.

A bottom-up top featuring rich texture and lace.

Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rnds/rows over 4 in/10 cm in GARTER RIDGE STITCH on larger needle and after blocking
